  1. Segmentation and Reassembly: Transport layer data ko segments mein divide karke transmit karta hai. Agar data link layer ke frames ki maximum size transport layer ke segments se badi hai, to transport layer segments ko chhote units mein segment karke transmit karta hai. Destination device segments ko reassemble karke original data ko prapt karta hai.

  2. Connection-Oriented vs Connectionless Communication: Transport layer dono tarah ki communication provide karta hai: connection-oriented aur connectionless. Connection-oriented communication mein pehle connection establish hota hai, phir data exchange hota hai, aur connection terminate hota hai.

    TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is example hai connection-oriented protocol ka. Connectionless communication mein connection establish nahi hota, har segment individually transmit hota hai. UDP (User Datagram Protocol) is example hai connectionless protocol ka.

  3. Reliability: Transport layer reliable data delivery ko ensure karta hai. Connection-oriented protocols, jaise TCP, acknowledgments, retransmissions, aur error recovery mechanisms ka istemal karke reliable data transfer provide karte hain. Connectionless protocols, jaise UDP, data delivery ki guarantee nahi dete, lekin unki simplicity aur lower overhead ki wajah se fast data transfer mein istemal hote hain.

  4. Error Detection and Correction: Transport layer error detection aur correction techniques ka istemal karta hai. Parity checks, checksums, aur error detection codes ki madad se data integrity ko verify karta hai. Agar error detect hota hai, to retransmission aur error recovery mechanisms ka istemal karke data integrity ko restore karta hai.

  5. Flow Control: Transport layer flow control ka dhyan rakhta hai. Agar receiver ki capacity sender se kam hai, to flow control mechanisms, jaise sliding window protocol, ka istemal karke data flow ko regulate karta hai. Data ko overload hone se bachane ke liye flow control mechanism data transmission ki speed aur quantity ko control karta hai.

  6. Multiplexing and Demultiplexing: Transport layer multiplexing aur demultiplexing ko handle karta hai. Multiple applications aur services ke data ko alag-alag ports par multiplex karta hai.
